The hotel maintains a strong association with Cairns’ maritime heritage, being one of only two surviving buildings illustrating the early connection between businesses and the adjacent wharves. Rich history includes being a hangout for American soldiers during the 1940s who coined the phrase “Barbary Coast” for this notorious precinct.
